I like to dream

sunrise1.19.07

I wish I had a life list, some people call it a bucket list, but whatever you call it today I wish I had one. I've done so many things this week that could be on that list and checked off that list. Sunday, for instance I learned how to use an air-powered cap stapler. Yesterday, I sealed my house from the rain. Today, I learned to drive a forklift. Tomorrow? THE WORLD.

I don't know that any of those things would have necessarily been on my life list before today, but I'd seriously like to start keeping track of the things I've done and set out goals for things to come. So here in no particular order is my Life List:

Successfully reroof my home | Finish a sweater for Thomas | Learn to surf | See Mount Fuji | Redesign my website to better reflect my interests | Visit the top of the Eiffel Tower with Thomas | Learn to embroider | Hike in the Grand Canyon | Design a line of stationary | Stay overnight in a French chateau | Watch the ISS fly overhead | Eat vegetables only I've grown for 1 month | See the Kremlin | Launch a line of 12 knitting patterns | Teach my dog to heel | Stand on the equator | Eat sushi at Nobu | Run a 5K and beat my best high school time | Become proficient at web design | Write a knitting book | Learn Spanish

I hope this list will grow and I will too. It's good to dream and I don't think I would have laid out these ideas if it weren't for the constant encouraging blog posts by Maggie Mason of Mighty Girl.

The Roof: Day 2

Today was more scraping, cleaning and most of all repairing. We spent a huge chunk of the day ripping up chunks of the roof. The valley over the garage was our main problem spot where we found our never to be forgotten problem spot, THE HOLE.

the hole

THE HOLE had to go, obviously, but it will never be forgotten. So we demoed around THE HOLE.

cutting out some rotten panels

But the rot needed to be cleared from the whole area.

prybars are your friend

there's lots missing

THE HOLE turned into a beautiful skylight for the garage, so architectural!

what a nice skylight in the garage

But then... WOW!

problems fixed!

I'm kind of amazed every time I look at those boards. I can't believe we really got it all patched up and it looks great! We also managed to clean the back of the roof and put down the underlayment. But I don't have a good photo of that because the guy were yelling at me to get back to work! More tomorrow, if I can move.

Loyalty trumps dirty

Henry

Why would he wait for us anywhere else but at the base of the ladder? The reroof project has generated a bit more debris than we originally expected, nothing unmanageable but it's pretty dirty. Today we will figure out how to get that cleared up along with repairing any rotten wood. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to lift sheets of plywood up a ladder but, hey we'll figure it out. Right?

The Roof: Day 1

ripping up the roof

We scraped, peeled, and we sweat. We're down to plywood with huge thanks to some great friends.

roofers

And if you're unsure about why we're reroofing our house, here's a synopsis. This was taken from INSIDE our garage. A picture is worth a thousand words, right?
