Little tiny excitment!

Little and fun and exciting, I just got my MiniCards in the mail from MOO.com. They're about the same length as regular business cards but only half the width. You can use provided images or your own photography on the cards. 100 cards come in a pack and each card can have a different image on the back.

I used ten of my own photos and then on the reverse I listed my company, blog site and email address. Simple, fun and so exciting!

Blog and ye shall receive

A week or two ago I did a project about color and designing with color. I saved my pink blog for last because I just adore the color, but I was so overwhelmed that I couldn't make a definitive decision about what to post. Basically, I just rambled on about pink.

Then these flowers arrived. My mom knows how much I love the color!

Farmers' Market in Oceanside

When I woke up yesterday morning, I didn't feel healthy. When I don't feel well I usually try to find something in my cupboards to make me feel better. Yesterday, we had nothing. No healthy food, no milk, no vegetables, no bread.

I decided I needed to change that. I jumped in the shower, threw on some clothes and hopped in the car. I knew where I could find some good eats, the Oceanside Farmers' Market. Every Thursday morning, the city blocks off a section of street next to City Hall.

Oceanside Farmers' Market

It's a small but well stocked farmers' market. There's a fish monger, people selling handmade wares and always quite a few vendors with beautiful flowers. The bouquets previewed the season with rich autumnal palettes.

Bright fall flowers

They were pretty and tempting, but I wasn't at the market for flowers. I went searching for color in other places, like this vegetable stand. I bought two bunches of the beets. I can't wait to cook them tonight.

Colorful produce

I also picked up some swiss chard that I think I'll wilt with some garlic.

Fresh greens

I had my evening menu all planned, but my neighbor stopped by and invited us to the nighttime version of the Farmers' Market. It's more food related than the morning event. There were interestingly exciting booths, like Kebabistan

Kebabistan?

and Animal Pretzels. (?)

Animal Pretzels?

As good as those sounded, we enjoyed some (maybe not the healthiest) lobster bisque while we listened to the band and hung out with our new friends.

It's still summer in SoCal

Saturday we decided to go to the local Harbor Days festival. It's an aptly named gathering with lots of carnival food like funnel cakes and fresh squeezed lemonade. Just as we crossed the street from the parking lot we ran into our friends Nick and Amy. So we spent the day with them. We climbed around on a Marine hover-craft that was brought on shore for the crowds to see. We looked at all the weird stuff that was for sale, and just hung around and enjoyed the beautiful weather and harbor.

Traps

After a while we drifted back to their boat to get out of the sun and have a drink. We kicked back and had a great time chatting and just generally relaxing. We struck up conversations with the local flare that also has boats in the harbor including a seal and some pelicans that came by to say hello.

Pelicans

The water was calm so Nick suggested we take the boat out for a spin. No complaints here!

What an afternoon

We came up on some seals soaking up the sun. They remind me of Henry and Lola, "Excuse me, but we're napping. Please move on."

The next buoy was the place to be though. I don't think there's anymore room for you buddy...

Room for one more?

It was a great day, all spur of the moment and lots of fun. Thanks guys!

Happy 16th Birthday Bradley

Bradley, age 4

Today is my nephew's 16th birthday. I can't believe it. It doesn't seem like it's possible that he's practically a grown-up! I've put together some of my favorite photos of the little guy!

I remember when he was just a cuddly baby, he was cute ...me, not so much. This is his first Christmas.

Bradley and a teen Heather

He's always been a happy kid. Who know anyone could get that excited over his birthday cake? I've always loved this photo just because of his sheer excitement!

Bradley, age 2

I took this next photo at my 18th birthday. He was so cute, always wanting to sit next to me. It looks like we enjoyed some more birthday cake, (look at Nancy back there... always trying to get in the photos!)

Bradley, age 3

But popping into photos is just family tradition. (There's a picture of his mother running through a wedding picture, here.)

Even with bunny ears, look what a cute little kid he was!

Bradley, age 7

He's been so cute, I wish he could stay little. Happy birthday Brad! Have a great day, and good luck on the driving test!

Love,
Aunt Heather
